The politic of the worst
ADRIEN BARAZZONE
Power Comedy
Adrien Barazzone performs a solo rendition of a Municipal Council session.
A podium, five chairs, a microphone for each – we plunge into the heart of a Municipal Council more real than life. On the agenda, a thorny question: should the statue of Woodrow Wilson be taken down to make way for a somewhat conceptual piece entitled Paper Ball? The debate is open, and tensions rise. Importance of symbolism, memory, and beauty, but also wokism, bike lanes, small businesses… everything becomes material for verbal jousting. Alone on stage, Adrien Barazzone brings forth a gallery of characters, from the tireless chatterbox to the weak-kneed president, and a few excitable council members. Between bursts of anger, yawns, and fallacious arguments, the actor orchestrates this political cacophony with sharpness and tenderness. No matter the outcome of the vote, the essence lies elsewhere – in this burlesque mirror where our collective contradictions are put on display, and where one realizes that laughter may well be the most beautiful revolution of all.
What the press says:
“Actor Adrien Barazzone single-handedly embodies his city’s entire municipal council in a show entitled La Politique du pire (The Politics of the Worst). Hilarious and finely observed.” RTS – Thierry Sartoretti
